hypodermis

Under the epidermis and the dermis, the hypodermis is the deepest layer of the skin. It serves as an interface between the dermis and the moveable structures situated underneath it (muscles, tendons). It also protects the body from physical blows, temperature variations and acts as a store of adipose (fat).
