Histamine

When an allergic individual is exposed to an allergen (a substance likely to cause an allergy, for example pollen grains), the immune system of the individual in question releases different substances, known as mediators, like for example histamine which are responsible for the appearance of symptoms related to the allergy. In serious cases, the release of a large amount of histamine can cause an anaphylactic shock, that is to say a sudden and drastic lowering of blood pressure.
