A round-the-clock curative dose of antibiotics
6/13/14

Three criteria for assessing the effects of this method

All the data gathered during the monitoring phase will be subjected to statistical analysis in order to determine if the adjustment of the antibiotic doses - in order to succeed in administering minute by minute curative dosing - yields real beneficial results for the patients. The beneficial effects will be measured according to three criteria: the increase in the cure rate, the reduction of the duration of antibiotic treatment necessary to overcome the infection and the reduction of the phenomenon of resistance of the bacteria responsible.
In total, 10 European and 1 USA partners have taken part in this adventure. A section of this clinical study will also consist of analyzing the pharmacokinetic model for the distribution of beta-lactams in babies and infants that are under 15 years old. “These clinical tests will only be observational. The method for readjustment of the curative concentration must first prove its worth for adults before being tested on children”, explains Bernard Joris.
The MON4STRAT project officially began on the 1st of February last and the results will take many months to establish. However, this has not stopped the researchers from already thinking about the next step: the ideal dosing equipment for administering beta- lactams directly to the patient enabling continuous injection of antibiotics and individualized monitoring.
