Hypophyseal dwarfism
The term “dwarfism” refers to a lack of growth which is more than 20% below normal average size. There are numerous varieties of dwarfism. Among them is hypophyseal dwarfism, which is an harmonious dwarfism. This means that the different parts of the body remain in proportion, and it results from the lack of secretion of the hypophyseal (or pituitary) gland and more specifically, the front part of it, the anterior pituitary, also known as the adenohypophysis. The hormones produced by this part of the hypophysis are primarily: FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinising hormone), ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), GH (growth hormone) and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
