A family of DNA viruses (which have DNA in their genetic composition) that cause many maladies in animals and in humans. Among humans, there is oral and genital herpes, chicken pox, Herpes zoster, infectious mononucleosis, etc.( See A vaccine against infectious mononucleosis)
