2/9/10 It’s a first! Astronomers are observing an extrasolar planet that is nearing its end. Its star is planned to disintegrate in… a few hundred million years. A fraction of a second on an astronomical scale… 1/14/10 Isotopic analysis of the Earth’s water and water contained in comets appears to show that the majority of water in our oceans does not have a cometary origin. 10% of our water, at the very most, comes from comets. 11/10/09 Is our earth the only oasis favourable to life? The Darwin space mission, designed to characterise exoplanetary atmospheres similar to our world, may start to form an answer. When will it be launched? 5/26/08 In 2007, a large scale program of observations of Jupiter using the Hubble Space Telescope produced some surprising images of polar auroras above the giant planet. Bertrand Bonfond, researcher at the ULg, has been trying to understand them. 5/6/07 Is our Earth unique? How can we penetrate to the very heart of the stars? These questions are two aspects of the same space mission: CoRoT. This satellite, launched in December 2006, is now supplying us with its first observations. A spotlight on CoRoT, with Professor Arlette Noels, below.
