10/5/12 Technological development continuously allows for advances in the area of astrobiology. For the first time, scientists have picked up the emission from a super-Earth which has been given the name 55 Cancri e. 1/19/12 The Kepler space telescope has made possible the observation of two exoplanets orbiting the remains of a red giant. The planets are very close to their sun and typically the same size as the Earth. 10/27/11 Observation by the Belgian telescope TRAPPIST of the occultation of a star by Eris, a dwarf planet which caused Pluto to lose its status as a planet, has caused some surprises. 4/22/11
The auroral footprint of Enceladus, an ice satellite of Saturn, has been detected by the Cassini space probe. If its existence had been predicted for several years, its detection has nevertheless provided a number of unexpected surprises.
2/3/11
Models of the formation of planetary systems have been built on the study of our solar system. But of what value is a model based on the observation of a single object? Oliver Absil takes stock of ten years of observations.
