Aurore Thibaut

Aurore Thibaut is a physiotherapist and a doctoral student in medical sciences in the Coma Science Group (Cyclotron Research Centre, University of Liège). She studied physiotherapy and re-education at ULg (2010), as well as doing a postgraduate year (specialising in neurosciences – 2011) allowing her to do her PhD.

Since 2011, she has been studying potential treatments for patients in an altered state of consciousness. One aspect of this project relates to transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), which aims to improve signs of consciousness in patients thanks to cortical stimulation; the other aspect of this project relates to the study of spasticity in severely brain-damaged post-coma patients. She is also working with positron emission tomography (PET scan) and electroencephalography in order to objectivise brain plasticity linked to stimulation or, on the contrary, the phenomena of pathological cerebral reorganisation underlying spasticity.
