In 2006, Gilles Wautelet graduated in geomatics and geometrology from the University of Liège. He then began a post-graduate degree (D.E.A) in science before starting a doctoral thesis in 2007 on the “characterisation of ionospheric irregularities and their influence on high accuracy positioning with GPS overmid-latitudes”. At the same time, he worked at the Royal Meteorological Institute (MRI) in the "ionospheric profiles" section. He left this post in 2010 to join the "Geodesy and GNSS" unit at ULg (Geomatics Unit, Geography Department, Faculty of Science). He obtained his PhD in 2013 and became a research assistant at ULg, still within the geomatics unit, under the direction of René Warnant.
