IUTA

Commedia 2
Founded in 1994 at the University of Liege, the International University Theatre Association (IUTA) has the purpose of promoting and developing worldwide all recognized theatrical activity (training, creative work, research, performance) at the post-secondary, university, or graduate level. The association has about fifty nations as members, and sponsors exchange and service programmes in which acting coaches, actors, researchers and theoreticians from all over the world can share their experiences and concerns. IUTA organizes a biennial world congress, and also works to promote dialogue and better understanding between cultures, as well as between amateur and professional theatre. IUTA encourages cooperation between different university-level acting companies. The University Theatre International Meeting (RITU) is supported by IUTA.

Fin de siècle 1

Since the creation of IUTA, the TURLg (Royal University Theatre of Liege) has held its presidency. But Robert Germay will pass the torch to a Quebecois colleague in June 2008. The official headquarters of the Association will remain at Liege (it is a non-profit International Association under Belgian law). Six World Congresses have already been organized in Liege, Valleyfield, Dakar, Cracow, Olympia and Urbino. The next World Congress will be held in Puebla, Mexico, in June 2008.
